Reissue of I-Bonds from a Trust

Bogleheads • View forum - Investing - Help with Personal Investments - www.bogleheads.org
There has been a discussion on the Boglehead forum about the possibility of dissolving a bypass trust that becomes unnecessary due to changes in the estate tax laws. If someone decided to do this, and they had paper I-Bonds registered to their revocable trust, can those bonds be reissued in their personal name? If this can be done, how would that be accomplished, and would any income taxes on the deferred interest be due? The savingsbonds.gov web site has information on reissuing bonds to put them into a trust, but I could not find information on how to reissue them to get them out of a trust. The information I was able to find indicated that income tax on accrued interest is due for some registration changes, but not others. There was no mention of how this applies to removal from a trust. Thanks in advance for any information you may be able to provide.
